Calla's Heart
In which the Unity pillar holds the kingdoms together, and the new world learns that the home is the people.
The Unity pillar was tested fourth.
Calla stood at the center of the World Root, with the unity of the world flowing into her, with the kingdoms, the people, the team, the love, with the seven kingdoms that had been the alliance, with the people who had been the refugees, with the team that had been the family.
The unity was the connection. The unity was the web. The unity was the way the new world would hold together, the way it would connect, the way it would remember that the home is not the place but the people.
Calla had held the unity before. She had held it at the Battle of Three Armies, when she had held the line for three days with twenty thousand men against forty thousand cultists. She had held it when her father had died, when her home had been lost, when she had stood in the command tent and not broken. She had held it because the home is the people, because the home is the team, because the home is the love.
She held the unity now. She held it the way a princess holds a kingdom, the way a daughter holds a memory, the way a partner holds a love. She held it because the unity was the connection, because the unity was the web, because the unity was the way the new world would remember that the home is not the place.
She cast the spell. The unity flowed into the World Root. The new world began to connect.
The unity was not just the kingdoms. The unity was the people. The unity was every connection that had been made in three years of debugging, every friendship, every alliance, every love, every team, every family, every debugging partnership. The unity was the way the new world would know that it was one world, one system, one debugging, one love.
The home was the people. The new world would know that. The new world would hold that. The new world would not forget.
