In which our protagonist settles into a new normal, and discovers that the new normal has four people in it.

The waves had been redirected.

It had taken three days. It had taken every mage in the alliance, every crystal in the network, every drop of mana in the climate thermostat. It had taken Kenji's most ambitious spell yet, a continental redirect cast simultaneously at four points, with the four waves of corruption being told, in the language of structured magic, to go somewhere else.

The waves had gone. They had been redirected to a place that did not exist yet, a place that Kenji had defined in the spell: "a place outside the world, a place where corruption cannot spread, a place that is not a place but an absence." The waves had gone into that absence, and the absence had become the void.

But the world was safe. The corruption was contained. The alliance had held. The debugging had worked.

The calm that followed was different from the calm of S4E10. That calm had been the calm of a system that had just been fixed. This calm was the calm of a system that had just been tested and had held. The first calm was tentative. This calm was earned.

The group had settled into a new configuration. Elara was still Captain-Commander, but she had taken a step back from the day-to-day. The raid plan had been taught to the alliance's militaries. She was now a strategist, working with the generals, designing the coordinated defense that everyone knew was coming. Lian was teaching. She was running the structured magic curriculum, traveling between the seven kingdoms, training the next generation of mages. Seraphina was running the Silver Road, the crystal network, the merchant intelligence, the financial backbone of the alliance. Calla was in the capital, working with the Council of Kings, learning the alliance's systems, preparing for the day when she would inherit her father's throne.

And Kenji was in the middle. The hub of the wheel. The Strange Sage, the Royal Advisor, the debugger of the world. He had Sundays off. He took them. He sat in his chair. He read books. He did not cast spells. He did not debug anything.

But on the other six days, he was everywhere. He was in the audience chamber with the king. He was in the academy with Lian. He was in the merchant houses with Seraphina. He was in the training grounds with Elara. He was in the Council of Kings with Calla.

He was, he realized, the glue. The thing that held the alliance together was not the crystal network, not the Council of Kings, not the climate thermostat. It was the fact that everyone in the alliance trusted him, and he trusted everyone, and the trust was based on a thousand small interactions, a thousand small debug sessions, a thousand small moments of "I see you, I understand you, I am here for you."

It was, he thought, exactly the way good engineering worked. The system was not just the architecture. The system was the people.

Pip's spark pulsed, faintly, in the back of his mind. The pulse felt like: "You are doing well."

Kenji sent back: "Thanks, partner."

The afternoon was warm. The crystal network was quiet. The alliance was at peace. The debugging was paused.

Then the crystal network lit up. The message was from the north. It was from Princess Calla.

"I am coming south," the message said. "I have something to discuss. It is personal. It is political. It is both."

# WORLD.md (updated)

## Lessons
